The Yaderans were a humanoid species from the Gamma Quadrant. They were experts in omicron radiation-emitting holotechnology.
Yaderan Male and Female.
In 2340 their homeworld, Yadera Prime, was annexed by the Dominion. According to Rurigan, life on his homeworld changed so dramatically afterwards, that he did not feel to belong there anymore. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
People.
Anetra
Anetra was a Yaderan woman. She was the daughter of Rurigan. She was killed by the Dominion when they destroyed her home village.
Rurigan later created a sentient hologram of Anetra and others who once inhabited the planet Yadera II. This version of Anetra had a daughter of her own, called Taya. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
Colyus
Colyus was a holographic figure created by Rurigan, a Yaderan who had lost his friends and village in a Dominion attack.
Colyus, not knowing that he was one of the holograms, served as protector of the village and was investigating the disappearances of twenty-two villagers in 2370. When Jadzia Dax and Odo landed on the planet, Colyus arrested them thinking that they were responsible for the missing people. Odo and Dax eventually helped Colyus solve the mystery. Dax and Odo discovered that all the villagers, except for Rurigan, were holographic projections and that a faulty transformer was responsible for the disappearances.
At first, Colyus did not believe them, but after they convinced him, he persuaded his people that if they wished to continue to exist they must allow Dax and Odo to take them off-line temporarily and repair the reactor before it experienced a complete failure. They agreed and Colyus and the rest of the village were restored. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
Depnen
Depnen was a hologram, inhabitant of a holographic Yaderan village created by Rurigan, working as a baker.
By 2370, he was a good friend of Taya's mother and always saved the best loaves of greenbread for them. Shortly before her disappearance, Taya's mother was making vase for Depnen. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
Merruk
Merruk was a Yaderan male who was part of the holographic village recreated by Rurigan after his original village was wiped out by the Jem'Hadar. In 2370, malfunctions in the hologenerator caused some of the village "inhabitants" to disappear, including Merruk's wife. At a town meeting Merruk and the rest of the village was informed that they were holograms, and that because of the malfunctions, they would cease to exist, unless the hologenerator was repaired. At first Merruk did not believe this, and told Colyus, who served as protector of the village, that he should be looking for his wife. Colyus pointed out that when they went to the edge of the valley, Merruk's hand disappeared as he tried to cross the boundary. After Dax and Odo repaired the hologenerator, Merruk and the rest of the village was restored. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
Rurigan
Rurigan was a male Yaderan. He lived on Yadera Prime until it was conquered by the Dominion in 2340. Unhappy with the changes brought on by the Dominion, he decided to move to one of the planet's colonies, and created a holographic reproduction of his village complete with copies of his old friends.
In 2370, when Odo and Lieutenant Jadzia Dax landed on the planet, the holographic figures were disappearing due to a faulty transformer, which Dax was able to fix to restore Rurigan's world. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
Taya
Taya was a young Yaderan girl and granddaughter of Rurigan. She and the rest of her fellow colonists were actually holograms created by Rurigan, as his real family and friends were killed by the Dominion in 2340. However, the images began disappearing due to a faulty hologenerator.
In 2370, crewmembers from space station Deep Space 9 arrived to investigate unusual emissions from the planet and then stayed to help investigate the disappearance of the colonists, among them, Taya's mother and Rurigan's daughter. Odo became fond of Taya, and with Jadzia Dax, he repaired the emitter, allowing the holographic characters to reappear. Taya played a significant role in helping Odo and Dax discover the cause of the disappearances. She was the first to reveal that the villagers never left the valley, and it was her arm's disappearance at the edge of the field that set in motion the discoveries that led to the return of the villagers.
Before he left, Odo turned into a top to amuse Taya. (DS9: "Shadowplay").
