Devotion Holds no Bounds.
Dobby awoke at 5am, ready to start a new day. His first thought was to go and see the one that he worshipped, the one that had helped him a year ago.
Dobby got up off his small bed and made sure that his baggy sweat shirt and his football shorts were straight and once he was satisfied that all was well he took up his tea cosy and put it on his head. Then creeping out of the large dormitory type room – being careful not to awaken the other house elves – he made his way to the kitchen’s and from there he clicked his fingers and vanished, only to reappear in a bedroom that had five four poster beds within it. He carefully walked over towards one of the beds and observed the sleeping occupant.
The occupant had knocked the duvet half off him and Dobby went up to the bed and tenderly pulled the covers up to cover the boy that he was looking at. He gently made sure that the child was well covered and once he was satisfied that all was well, he took one last look at the boy with the coal black scruffy hair and the lightening bolt shaped scar and once more with a smile, he clicked his fingers and vanished, reappearing once again in the large kitchen ready to begin the days work.
Dobby set about getting the large pots ready for making the morning porridge and stoking the stoves so that a nice roaring fire was going for the hotplates to get nice and hot for the frying pans so that the bacon and eggs could be cooked. A few minutes later the other house elves joined him and started to get the four tables loaded with bread and butter along with jugs of chilled orange and apple juice. A dozen elves were putting bread on long multiple pronged toasting forks and sat in front of the roaring fire and every now and then turned the bread over until both sides were brown and then piled them onto golden plates. Others were stirring large pots making the porridge and others were making the bacon and eggs. Once all this was done they loaded the four tables and since it was now 7am they sent the food magically up through the floor to the great hall for the students to enjoy.
Dobby moved over towards a door that was set into the wall at one end of the kitchen, and after taking a quick look around and making sure that all the elves were busy he sneaked out and walked up a flight of steps until he’d come up behind a portrait, and removing a sliding cover that covered the portraits eyes he glued his eyes to the back and had a perfect observation point of the entrance to the great hall. After a few minutes of watching and waiting he was rewarded when he noticed the one enter the hall. Dobby immediately left his position and rushed back down to the kitchen. And at once he set about making scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. He worked quickly and within five minutes he had a plate of scrambled eggs and crispy bacon ready and he moved over towards the Gryffindor table and placed the golden plate carefully in a certain place and sent it up through the floor to the room above. He rushed back up the steps and once more observed the room, noticing that the person who’d received the breakfast was tucking into the food, and enjoying it tremendously. Dobby was pleased.
After breakfast was finished, Dobby helped with the cleaning up and then when the large gong was sounded for the day’s lessons to begin he along with several other elves went to the Gryffindor tower to start cleaning and dusting. Ignoring the others Dobby made his way up the boy’s stairway and made his way into the 4th year dormitory, he took one look at the mess that the four boys had left behind and he shook his head. Dobby immediately set to work making each of the beds and then picking up the clothes that had been discarded and folding them up and setting them on top of each of the beds. When he came to the one’s part of the dorm he gently placed his discarded clothes on the bed and started tidying the bedside cabinet, Dobby picked up a photo that had been knocked over and saw two people smiling and waving to the camera and between them they held a baby who looked about a year old and he was laughing and bouncing up and down in his mother and fathers arms. He looked like he didn’t have a care in the world. Dobby carefully placed the photo face up on top of the cabinet and after one last look and a smile on his face he finished cleaning and with a click of his long fingers he vanished and reappeared in the Great Hall to wipe down the four long tables. By the time lunch time came around all was nice and clean and ready for the hungry hordes that would descend a couple of hours later.
Lunch and dinner followed the same pattern as breakfast. Dobby himself prepared the food for the one and was once more pleased to see the boy enjoying it tremendously. Dobby followed the same routine untirelessly day in and day out. Cleaning, cooking and generally looking after the person concerned. Until that one fateful day when his devotion went to the extreme.

Dobby was in Hogsmeade one day, visiting with Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth when news reached the two of them that a boy resembling the one had been captured and taken to Malfoy Manor. Dobby was beside himself with worry, and it took a lot for Aberforth to calm him down. Both of them knew what had been going on for the past few months, and they’d also heard the rumours about three teenagers who’d gone on the run and also that the death eaters were desperately trying to fine them, for they’d named one of them as undesirable number one. And Dobby knew who that was which made him all the more worried about the one’s safety. Aberforth sat Dobby down and started to explain that there would maybe be one way to save the people concerned and asked Dobby where the most likely place would be that they’d be holding them prisoner, and Dobby – drawing on his knowledge of the manor – thought about it and knew right away that they’d be held in the dungeons below the main house. Aberforth was pleased with this information and went on to explain that since Dobby could come and go through the protective shell that surrounded the building, Dobby could just appear in the cell and then just by touching the others he could get them out of the building to safety with no problems. Dobby wanted to set off there and then, it took a lot for Aberforth to hold him back and to not vanish at that moment. They had to time it so that they’d be sure that the three of them would be together at the same time.
When Dobby finally appeared in the dungeon – which took the occupants quite by surprise – he was not prepared for the amount of people he’d encounter. There were five people in total, Harry/Ron/Ollivander/Dean and Luna.
Dobby looked around looking slightly bewildered for a few moments when he heard a voice telling him to take Ollivander/Dean and Luna to Fleurs and Bills house. Dobby being used to following orders had immediately taken a hold of Luna’s and Ollivanders hands and Dean had followed suit by taking hold of Luna's hand. Then Dobby vanished and reappeared outside Bill and Fleurs seaside house. Dobby fell to his knees onto the beach looking slightly exhausted, and Luna wanted him to rest for a while, but Dobby wanted to get back to the manor so that he could help the one and get him out of there, and with a snap of his fingers he vanished once again.
But this time when he reappeared in the dungeon, it was empty. There was no sign of the three that he’d left behind, looking around he spotted the door leading to the cell was open and he heard shrieks and the sounds of someone screaming. And then the screaming stopped and was replaced by a whimpering sound. Dobby knew right away what was happening and apparated to reappear upstairs in the library beside four people, and was just in time to use his magic to snatch Bella’s wand away from her to stop her from inflicting more harm on the people he’d come to admire and respect.
Bella was so angry and threw a large knife towards where the five were standing and before she knew it the five vanished along with the knife, reappearing to find themselves on a beach, and Bill and Fleurs cottage in the distance. But when Ron, Hermione and Griphook turned around searching for Harry they saw him kneeling over the fallen body of Dobby and heard the sound of sobbing. Harry picked up Dobby and carried him further up the beach and gently laid him down and started to dig a hole with his bare hands. He laid Dobby in the hole and covered him with sand. Afterwards Harry stood up and after standing for a few moments with head bowed he turned and walked back to his friends, a very much changed person.
