The Hindu Festival of Lights was a festive holiday in India, celebrated with earthen lamps, fireworks, sweets, and gifts. In 2367, the Festival coincidentally was celebrated on the one thousand five hundred fiftieth day since the USS Enterprise-D was commissioned. (TNG: "Data's Day"). According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 337), this festival, which was also known as Divali, was a celebration of Rama returning to his kingdom as the rightful king. Celebrants light rows of oil lamps or candles to welcome Rama home.
